Katoto brought together the udok, traditional drums of the Ankole people of central Uganda, with western instruments to create an entertaining and educational show.
“In my experience as a teacher, I found out that drumming can help children focus and learn things better,” said Katoto. “It also helps build self-confidence.” Kez Sunday Udok has quickly become popular in their home country, playing at local festivals and winning awards. In 2016 they toured Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda and are currently in the process of recording their first album.

Kez Sunday Udok a is a 5th grade student from Nigeria who has an incredible story. Despite being born into a family of six children, Kez was always an amazing young lady. She loved to play outside and spend time with her friends. However, when Kez was just four years old, her family had to flee their home due to the Boko Haram terrorist group.
The Udoks were one of the few families in their village that did not get caught up in the violence. Consequently, they were able to travel to safety and live in a refugee camp for several months. During this time, Kez’s older brother died from malnutrition.
However, despite all the challenges faced during her childhood, Kez never gave up on herself or her dreams. When she arrived at the refugee camp, she was only in kindergarten but quickly learned how to read and write English thanks to the help of teachers at the camp.
Thanks to her hard work and determination, Kez finally arrived in America as a sponsored child in fifth grade. Now living in Maryland with her family, Kez is thriving academically and socially. She loves spending time with her friends and family and is constantly coming up with new ideas for fun activities.
