Early Life
Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., better known as Lil Wayne, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 27, 1982. Wayne’s parents had divorced when he was two years old, and he moved in with his mother, a cook. He was reared in Hollygrove, one of New Orleans’ most impoverished neighborhoods.
He had a tight relationship with his murdered stepfather, Rabbit. Wayne has a tattoo honoring Rabbit.
At the age of eight, he began writing rap songs. In 1991, he met Bryan Williams, an American rapper, record producer, and co-founder of Cash Money Records, better known by his stage names Birdman and Baby.
He joined the American teen hip-hop group “The B.G.’z,” and together with rapper Lil’ Doogie, they created the group’s self-titled debut album for Cash Money Records on July 29, 1995. This was also his first album of collaborative work.
Career
In 1996, he joined the hip hop crew known as “Hot Boys.” The trio, which included Wayne, gained some basic recognition when their second studio album, “Guerrilla Warfare,” which was released on July 27, 1999, topped the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
He started the record company “Young Money Entertainment,” an imprint of “Cash Money Records,” the same year he was named Cash Money’s president. He did, however, discuss leaving the executive posts at both labels in late 2007.

Controversies
Lil Wayne is well known for his love of marijuana smoking, and he has run into legal issues multiple times. In Georgia, he was detained for drug possession in 2006, and in Arizona, he was detained once more .
Wayne was held for eight months at the infamous Rikers Island prison complex in New York City in 2010 after being arrested for drugs again in 2007. Possession of weapon charges followed. In 2016, he wrote about the experience in a book titled Gone Til’ November: A Journal of Rikers Island.
